My wife and I sail a Catalina 22 swing keel on Storm Lake, IA. The lake is only 3 miles long, so not a lot of opportunities for adventuring, but at least we're on the water.
Destinations visited:
Chartered in Great Lakes...Superior and Michigan. Also, in about a week, we get to spend a couple of days sailing the Hauraki Gulf out of Auckland. Can't wait!
Looking to:
Build up to a blue water experience...maybe Bermuda? We all need our dreams! ;-)
Bob,
I found a 41' Hunter that charters out of Washington Island, WI. their website is www.lifebreeze.com. Their website hasn't been updated yet so I'm not sure if they are chartering for 2009. I think I met up with this boat once last summer in Fish Creek. Its a very nice boat.
If you are looking for something smaller (either a 22' or 26'), I found a website at www.snugharborinn.com in Sturgeon Bay, WI.
I don't have any personal knowledge of either of these organizations so hopefully they are still in business. Good luck.
Bob,
I don't know of anyone who charters boats in Green Bay or Marinettte (our home port). The best sailing in the bay of Green Bay is in the northern half (the southern tip is shallow and shoal ridden).
The only charter company that I'm aware of is Sailboats Inc. out of Manitowoc (west shore of Lake Michigan). The other likely place to find a charter is in Door County (the peninsula that seperates Lake Michigan from Green Bay). I have a friend who talked about bareboating an Island Packet in Door County but I can't remember where he found it. I'll check with him and get back to you.
